Project Proposal – Nelson Soremekun
Plan – My plan for the final project is to promote and release a four track EP which will be house and garage based genres. I am in the process of creating the first song at the moment and have planned to collaborate with a good friend of mine Fin Abbo who is Band member / Producer.
We will create music at both mine and his houses as we have home set ups, using equipment such as Midi Keyboards and Powerful synths such as Massive and FM8 from the native instruments collection to create professional strong sounding basslines and leads.
The reason why i have chosen to collaborate with Fin is because he has a much greater knowledge in musical theory than me for example notes, keys and scales. I have worked with him before and we have different music production styles however enjoy similar funky riffs / tunes which is why i think it would be great to collab with him for a couple of tracks on my EP!
Research – I will gather research from a number of resources however my favourite method of learning specific production techniques is definitely youtube because there are so thousands upon thousands of videos within every topic, so if i want to learn about chopping up samples properly and time stretching i can find a detailed guide in minutes and follow it.
I will also use methods of research such as word of mouth, for example in my lessons at college asking fellow students for help in a certain area or coming to my teachers with a query on how to perform a specific action on logic or how to add a link to a blog post on wordpress.
I will also listen to music from related artists and their record labels which are similar to what i am going to create for my EP, and then research them looking for blogs, reviews and other useful information which may help me.
Evaluation – I will document and reflect on my progress by screen shotting or videoing my work every so often, for example for each song i will screenshot when i’ve first created the drum pattern or top line / main riff then analyse why and how i’ve done it the way i have.
As well as keeping a collection of screenshots of progress within my social media sites e.g Soundcloud listens / followers.
I will also show a class mate, family member or teacher my current progress for each individual track and then gain feedback making slight adjustments to the appropriate areas.
Rationale – So far i am confident with my ability to be able to sit down and create a song that i would actually listen to myself, when i first started making music this was my main goal more than anything.
Some of my strengths would be that i think i’m capable of capturing and creating a song with a certain type of feel/vibe to it, For example the first track of my EP is an oldschool soulful house track which includes uplifting keys upon pleasant sounding house organs.
My current achievements so far are creating Facebook and Soundcloud pages and gaining a small following on both of them, uploading some of my tracks on Soundcloud taking my total plays to around 1600, Whilst promoting them on Facebook and other social media platforms such as Instagram.
Planning – For the tracks i am making solo i aim to make 1 track every 10 days putting in as much time and effort as possible, showing them to peers and pupils and teachers for constructive criticism.
For the tracks where i will be collaborating with Fin i still plan on sticking to these guidelines however i’ll need to incorporate when he’s available in the 10 days so we will be meeting up twice a week to write melodies and chords for the drum patterns i’ve made.
I plan to do at least 1 blog post per week for my coursework progress site and vice versa for my producer blog sharing the site URL on social media sites.
Im also going to write up a timeline of events of which will state the order of which i plan to carry out the creation of my EP and coursework & blog posts leading up to the final deadline.
